Julie/meh

And now its time for one of my favorite activities... unfounded criticism!

I cant really tell you why I dont like the movie Julie/Julia. On second thought, I probably can. I have not seen it, and only know the rough plot outline. Generally I would love this sort of thing. Food porn, that is. Plus, I love Julia Child! Love, Love, Love that kooky lady. I guess its the kind of people I hear raving about Julie/Julia that bother me... the same people who just HAD to visit tuscany after seeing "Under the Tuscan Sun", albeit on a movie-themed guided tour where they would snap pictures out the window of their charter bus and come home loaded with bottles of "EVOO", which was actually made in Albania. Also, I think Im kind of jealous of this "Julie" person. Who in the WORLD has the stamina to make all 2 billion recipes from Mastering the Art of French Cooking? And with a full time job, to boot! Right, because after a long days work, I just can't wait to spend all night whipping up some Boeuf Bourguignon. I'd be lucky to defrost a Boca Burger. I'm assuming the love interest in this movie was doing all the dishes every night, too, right? Because let me tell you, I have had a series of New York apartment "kitchens", and the nightly who-does-the-dishes routine has ruined more than one relationship.

In any case, not knowing much about this movie is certainly not going to stop me from making fun of it.

(Note: Amy Adams, if you're reading this, I actually think you're great. You were fantastic in Doubt, and passable in some other movies. The thing is, you're just too freaking cute for me in this. And not in a good way. In the same way Amelie was so "I'm french! And quirky! And I have a bob! ooh la la!" and it made me want to smoosh a creme brulee in her cute little face. But no offense, really. We should totally hang out.)

So, instead of this cutesy, sisterhood of the traveling spatulas version of the late, great, Julia, here are some movies I would love to see made:

Or maybe a Rom Com version, since Julie has such a thing for Julia:

And yes, I will probably see the real version this weekend. And then I will have to make duck a l'orange. But I won't like it.
