YOU WILL NOT DEFEAT ME, COBBLER.

I made a peach-blueberry cobbler on Saturday night. I havent made cobbler in so long, I forgot how easy it is. No dough to roll out and crimp, no meringue to destroy  .... just toss fruit in sugar and plop some basic biscuit dough on top, and BAM! Delicious, summery dessert in minutes.

The problem is that, when you make a whole cobbler, and no one else seems to have a sweet tooth but you (I know, its a shock I even consort with such people) (this deserves a second parenthesis; I am still flabbergasted that anyone would turn down cobbler), you and the cobbler are left to duke it out for the rest of the week. I have been slowly, steadfastedly making my way through the cobbler since Sunday-- determined to finish it myself.

Finishing a cobbler by oneself is harder than you would think. The first few days were great, but its gotten quite tedious lately. I like to think of it as a parallel to marathon training, this cobbler endurance training. I have my long and slow cobbler days (eat one piece over 90 minutes), my speedwork days (eat bites quickly with rest in between), and cross training days (pie).

I have begun to dread seeing that foil-covered pie plate in the fridge, waiting for me... taunting me. At this point it's a mental battle to push through; I am motivated only by the desire to defeat my gooey foe. I am about 3/4 of the way through the cobbler, and I think I can make it before I have to throw it out.  I'm even doing two a days now-- cobbler for breakfast after running, and cobbler in bed before sleeping.

I'm pretty exhausted from all this cobbler eating, but I'm also pretty impressed by what I can do if I put my mind to it. You see, endurance training is all about pushing your limits, finding out what you are really made of. In this case, that means peaches, blueberries, and cornmeal biscuits.
